Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy in NYC (KAP)

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) combines medically supervised ketamine treatment with intentional, ongoing therapy. At arc nyc therapy, we use KAP within a relational, somatic, and depth-oriented framework—not as a quick fix, but as one tool in a larger healing process.

Sometimes insight alone isn’t enough. You can understand your history, name your patterns, and still feel stuck in the same depression, anxiety, or relational loops.

When People Consider KAP

People often explore KAP when they’re experiencing:

  • Treatment-resistant depression and chronic low mood

  • Trauma and complex PTSD that hasn’t shifted with talk therapy alone

  • Persistent anxiety and shutdown

  • Emotional numbness or feeling like life is on “mute”

  • Deep shame and negative self-beliefs (“I’m broken,” “Nothing will help”)

  • Borderline traits – intense emotions, fear of abandonment, chronic emptiness

  • Neurodivergent burnout and long-term overwhelm

  • Existential distress and loss of meaning

KAP is one option, not a miracle cure. We’ll talk honestly about whether it’s likely to help you.

Our Approach to KAP

  • Relational and grounded – no guru energy, no hype. Just thoughtful, ongoing therapeutic support.

  • Somatic and trauma-informed – tracking your nervous system and staying within a tolerable range of intensity.

  • Depth-oriented – weaving KAP into the long arc of your healing, not treating it as a one-off event.
A typical KAP process may involve.

We don’t prescribe ketamine ourselves. A licensed medical provider handles evaluation, prescribing, and monitoring. Our role is to prepare, support, and integrate with you.

  1. Assessment & collaboration
We learn your history and goals, discuss benefits and limits of KAP, and—if appropriate—coordinate with a ketamine-prescribing provider.

  2. Preparation sessions
We clarify intentions, build somatic and grounding tools, and help you understand what to expect emotionally and psychologically.

  3. Ketamine dosing & support
Dosing happens in a setting arranged with the medical provider. A therapist from our team may be present or closely involved in pre- and post-session support, depending on the structure.

  4. Integration sessions
We work with what emerges—images, emotions, body sensations, insights—and connect it to your trauma history, attachment patterns, identity, and daily life. The focus is on translating the experience into real, sustainable change.

Common questions

Do you prescribe ketamine?
No. We do not prescribe medication. Ketamine is prescribed and medically managed by a licensed medical provider. We collaborate as your psychotherapists.

How many sessions does KAP involve?
It varies by person. Some people do a short, focused KAP series within ongoing therapy; others integrate it across a longer period. We’ll discuss structure, frequency, and cost in detail before beginning.

Can I work with you for KAP if I already have a therapist?
Sometimes. In some cases, we provide KAP-focused work while you continue with your existing therapist, with your consent and collaboration. In other cases, it makes more sense to consolidate your care. We’ll talk this through with you.
